Dog Suffering From Broken Leg

 In Dharamshala, someone heard a soft whimpering sound coming from near a doorway. There they found a dog trying again and again to stand only to fall back each time, one of his back legs twisted . His eyes were wide with fear the kind of look that comes when pain hits suddenly and you don't understand why. There was no vehicle around, nothing to suggest a road accident. It looked more like a bad fall, maybe from a rooftop or a steep slope. He was alone, hurt, and clearly terrified.

How He Was Found and Helped

The team of Shiva Association reached him and the moment they saw him they knew this little one needed gentle hands. His leg was swollen and clearly out of place, the bone beneath had broken. The team worked slowly and carefully, first easing his pain, then stabilizing the leg so it wouldn't get worse on the way to treatment. Once he was calm enough, they set the leg properly and wrapped it with care. A protective collar was placed around his neck, not to trouble him, but to stop him from licking or biting at the injury while it healed. Then he was carried to a quiet, safe corner where he could finally rest, away from noise and danger, with someone checking on him every day.

Why This Kind of Injury Is More Dangerous Than It Looks

A broken leg is more than just a painful moment, if it isn't cared for properly, it can change a dog's whole life:

• If the bone doesn't heal in the right position, he could be left limping or disabled forever
• Constant licking or chewing at the injury can open it up again or cause infection

• If you ever see a dog limping or struggling to walk don't wait and hope it gets better on its own, a small delay can cost a lot
• Try to block off unstable ledges or dangerous heights where dogs might fall from
• Once treated, let the dog rest completely, resist the urge to let him run or play until the leg has fully healed
• A cone or protective collar during recovery isn't cruel, it's what keeps him from hurting himself further
