Dog Suffering From Deep Skin Burn
Share With Your Friends
In a quiet area of Dharamshala the Shiva Association team came across a dog lying still with a large open wound on his hindquarter. The skin was completely burned away in that area leaving raw exposed flesh underneath. It looked painful and deep most likely caused by contact with something extremely hot like burning waste or an open fire something strays often wander too close to while searching for warmth or food. He lay quietly barely moving worn out from the pain.
How He Was Found and Helped
The team spotted him during a routine round through the area and noticed he wasn't moving much despite people and vehicles passing nearby. On closer look they found the deep burn wound and knew he needed help right away. They approached him slowly and calmly since any sudden movement could startle an animal already in so much pain. The wound was carefully cleaned to remove dirt and dead tissue and then treated with medicine to prevent infection and support healing. He was also given something to ease his pain since a wound this size can be extremely uncomfortable. Once treated he was moved to a safe and clean space where the team could monitor his recovery closely over the coming days.
Why This Kind of Injury Is More Dangerous Than It Looks
A burn wound this severe carries serious risks if not treated properly and quickly:
- The exposed flesh is highly vulnerable to infection from dirt and bacteria
- Large burns can cause significant fluid loss leaving the body weak and dehydrated
- Flies can lay eggs in the open wound leading to maggots especially in warm weather
- The pain can stop him from eating or resting properly slowing down recovery
- Left untreated a wound this deep can lead to severe infection spreading through the body
With burns this severe the skin's natural protection is gone which makes every day without treatment more dangerous than the last.
How We Can Stop This From Happening Again
- Keep burning waste or open fires away from areas where strays tend to gather
- If you spot an animal near a fire or hot surface try to guide it away safely
- Report any injured stray you notice instead of assuming someone else already has
- Avoid applying home remedies on burns as they can trap dirt and worsen the wound
- Quick cleaning and proper treatment of a burn greatly improves the chances of full recovery
