Dog Suffering From Skin Allergy

In Dharamshala the Shiva Association team came across a dog with a visibly troubled coat, patches of fur missing and the skin underneath looking dry, irritated, and inflamed in several places. It looked like a bad case of skin allergy, something that can be triggered by fleas, ticks, poor diet, or constant exposure to dust and dirt on the streets, a common struggle for strays who have no proper shelter or grooming. He seemed restless, likely scratching and biting at the itchy spots for quite a while before anyone noticed.

How He Was Found and Helped

The team spotted him during their rounds, noticing the rough, patchy state of his coat and the way he kept scratching at himself uncomfortably. On closer inspection they could see the skin was inflamed and irritated in multiple areas, with some spots more raw than others from constant scratching. He was cautious at first, unsure of the attention, but calmed down as the team approached gently. They examined the affected areas thoroughly to understand the extent of the allergy and began treatment, cleaning the irritated skin and applying medicine to reduce the itching and inflammation. He was also given medication to treat the underlying cause, whether from fleas, infection, or another trigger, along with something to help his skin heal and his fur grow back over time. He was then moved to a clean space where he could recover without the stress of the streets while his skin condition improved.

Why This Kind of Condition Is More Dangerous Than It Looks

A skin allergy might seem minor compared to an open wound, but if ignored, it can cause serious problems over time:
